PROGRAMME: MEMBERSHIP
Objective: To maintain the community profile of the National Trust of Australia (WA) and active support of heritage by increasing membership through retention of existing and recruitment of new members
Key Strategies:
To develop and maintain programmes which ensure growth in membership reflecting the broad socio-economic age, gender and geographic profile of Western Australians.
To offer a wide range of incentives and opportunities for people and organisations including education, local government and historical societies to join the Trust movement.
To recruit as members, those experts in relevant disciplines and to utilise the talents and skills of members to further the Trust's work.
To act as a catalyst for informed debate and discussion of heritage issues.
To awaken, encourage and stimulate appreciation, enjoyment and respect by members of the public for places and objects of heritage significance.

Trust News
Four publications were produced this year. The magazine is now recognised as the key heritage publication in Western Australia, providing a broad range of articles and features reflecting the Trust's holistic approach to heritage.
Issues of the magazine have been used as a promotional tool for use in high-level and public meetings for the purpose of describing new projects of the Trust including the Golden Pipeline Project and the Luisini's Winery Project.
Memo to Members
This magazine has undergone development from a wrap-around mailing sheet for the Trust News to a substantial booklet detailing administrative and activity information to Members. The booklet is produced in-house by Trust staff to minimise Members' costs. In it Members receive more specific information about Trust affairs with news from the Chief Executive Officer concerning Trust properties, forthcoming activities and announcements regarding other heritage organisations.
Volunteer Service Recognition
The National Trust recognises the dedication and commitment of its volunteers through a series of awards and recognition for members and other community volunteers to highlight voluntary services to conservation and interpretation of Western Australia's heritage. While acknowledging that volunteers do not seek recognition of their peers, the Council of the National Trust (WA) was pleased to announce the following awards for 1999/2000.
Certificate of Appreciation: Awarded in appreciation for particular service in support of the National Trust
McLarty Award: Awarded for 5 years dedicated service as a volunteer in support of the National Trust
Forrest Award: Awarded for 10 years dedicated service as a volunteer in support of the National Trust
Stirling Award: Awarded for 15 years dedicated service as a volunteer in support of the National Trust
