Dr Gary Morgan
Executive Director, Western Australian Museum

Gary Morgan has a PhD in zoology from Monash University. He took up the position of Executive Director of the Western Australian Museum (WAM) in February 2000 but has been in Perth before. He was Curator of carcinology (crustaceans) and helminthology (worms) of the WAM from 1985 to 1992.

On leaving Perth he worked for two and a half years as a Director of Te Papa Museum of New Zealand in Wellington New Zealand - now one of the world's most exciting museums. He and his wife then traveled around the world for almost a year and returned to Australia in late 1995. He worked as a Parks Manager with the National Parks and Wildlife Service in NSW and then became Associate Director at the Australian Museum in Sydney, with responsibility for the research and collection areas.

Gary is a strong advocate for museums being essential organisations in equipping the public to participate in debates about important environmental and cultural issues facing society.
