Renowned botanist Alexander S George used the following description of Western Australia's natural environment in "Wildflowers of Southern Western Australia" by Margaret G Corrick and Bruce A Fuhrer and edited by Alexander S George, 1996.

"A vast area, mostly very old geologically, relatively flat, generally infertile, tropical in the north, temperate in the south, subject to drought, with a large, diverse flora and fauna including many species peculiar to the region."

This very description is one of the main reasons for the Western Australian landscape being one of the world's most amazing natural wonders. Our state has one of the world's richest biodiversity in terms of its native flora and fauna. Not only are we incredibly proud of our natural heritage, the National Trust of Australia (W.A.) is working with the Western Australian community to protect this invaluable asset.
