The tombstone is a lavish and it is said that James was so distraught he spent a fortune on providing a beautiful stone carved tombstone. On it is carved a picture of a mourning James and Janet that can still be seen today. Seven years later James married an Augusta Sarah Godfrey and together they had three children together.

Jane Pearson's Tombstone Carved By Her Son, James. Jane was the daughter of the Mackey family from Sydney.

She became the wife of Captain James Pearson on 27th June 1835 at a ceremony conducted at St James Church.

Captain James Pearson was captain of a ship named Lady of the Lake and travelled exporting goods between England, Perth, India and Mackay.

The next four years were to be Janes last. Jane’s first son was born on April 26th and died of dysentery before reaching six months of age.

Jane had a second child, this time a daughter named Janet who was born March 27th 1838. The following year a pregnant Jane, James and Janet travelled to Perth.

John Pearson was born three weeks early on November 6th. Jane’s health deteriorated and on November 25th 1839 she died.

Her four week old son died soon after on December the 3rd. John and Jane were laid to rest in the East Perth Cemeteries.
