Far-flung towns across Australia are the stars of Smalltown, a photographic exhibition at the National Archives in Canberra.
Curated by the Historic Houses Trust, Smalltown  features images of rural and remote Australia by photographer Martin Mischkulnig, with text from author Tim Winton.

Mischkulnig set out to revisit the outback towns of his childhood and explored the idea that they were never destinations in themselves, but places on the way to somewhere else. You can visit Smalltown at the National Archives in Canberra until 26 February 2012.
