Michal Lewi

Michal Arnost Lewi was born 14 March 1931. He was educated in England at Magdalen College School, Oxford and at Oxford University (BA hons, MA).

As a qualified solicitor he practised in England, Singapore and Perth in the fields of commercial, corporate, charities, trusts, taxation and energy law. Retired as a senior partner of Jackson McDonalds, solicitors, in Perth in 1992 and remained in part-time practice as consultant to the firm until 1994.

Michal is currently the chairman of the National Trust of Australia (WA) and a member of the Heritage Council of Western Australia. He is also a member of the Management Committee of the Environmental Defender's Office of Western Australia.

Michal retired as chairman of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and as a member of the Council of Edith Cowan University in 1995, having served in both capacities for the maximum term of nine years.

Michal served for three years as a Commissioner on the State Government Insurance Commission.

He was previously a foundation member of the Senate of Murdoch University and serviced in that capacity for the maximum term of nine years. He was also previously the President of the Cancer Research Institute and served two terms as President of the Oxford Society in Western Australia.

Michal's hobbies include architectural photography, nature photography, history of art and architecture and computers.
