Peter Creaser

Peter Creaser has a background in regional conservation planning and assessment developed during his work with the NSW NPWS Reserve Systems Unit. Through a Masters majoring in Ecosystem Management at the University of New England and work undertaken in western NSW he was inspired by the virtues and the necessity of having local communities engaged in conservation activities.

This led to the question "Why does local government not have a leading role in nature conservation?"

He is now a Policy Officer with Environment Australia. His primary task for the past three years has included promotion and facilitating, nationally, local government involvement in native vegetation conservation through the Bushcare program and under the objectives of the National Strategy for Conserving Australia's Biodiversity.

Ultimately he would like to see biodiversity conservation integral to local government core business.
