Thank you to our volunteers
While we are grateful for our team of volunteers every day of the year, International Volunteer Day on 5 December gives us an extra special opportunity to acknowledge their invaluable contribution and dedication to supporting the National Trust’s mission.
Whether they share the stories of our places with visitors, care for our places and collections, maintain the grounds and gardens of heritage properties and protected bushland, assist at National Trust events or take care of a wide range of administrative tasks, we are deeply appreciative of all our volunteers.
International Volunteer Day, established by the UN General Assembly, takes place annually on December 5. It provides a wonderful opportunity for volunteers and organisations to celebrate their contributions, highlight their values, and raise awareness of their work across communities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), UN agencies, government bodies, and the private sector.

How we celebrated International Volunteer Day
On Sunday 1 December, we held a Sundowner for our volunteers at Samson House at Walyalup. It was a relaxing afternoon where attendees connected with their fellow volunteers while enjoying jazzy tunes by Swingin’ Bits and a delightful spread of sweet and savoury treats. Not even a late shower could dampen the festive spirit, and the band played on into the early evening.
Last month, National Trust (WA) CEO Julian Donaldson travelled to Albany with a small team of staff for a dedicated Volunteer Morning Tea at Strawberry Hill at Barmup to thank them for their support throughout the year.
