We need your aid to replace our balustrade

Conservation
Woodbridge

Great news! Work recently commenced to replace the unsafe balustrade at historic Woodbridge. Through the generosity of our supporters, five panels have already been installed but we need your support to replace them all.

Located on the banks of the Swan River, Woodbridge is widely considered to be one of Western Australia’s finest surviving grand 19th-century homes. Originally built in 1884 as the family home for agriculturist and newspaper proprietor Charles Harper, Woodbridge has recently undergone extensive conservation work. Further work is needed on the verandahs and we need your help.

The original iron lace balustrade was removed and discarded in the 1940s to infill the verandahs for sleeping during the period it was used as a hospital. New balustrades were installed in the 1970s, however, they do not reflect the house as it was during the Harper residency or meet Australian safety standards, making them unsafe.

Over the last year, the National Trust of Western Australia has undertaken significant conservation works at this important place and commenced replacing the balustrade. Through the support of Lotterywest and a large donor, we were able to replace three panels. On top of that, our generous members and supporters raised enough funds so we could replace an additional two panels.

To continue this great work and replace them all, we need your ongoing support.

Every gift, regardless of the size, will help us replace our balustrade.

All donations over $2 are tax-deductable. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
