Legislation
The National Trust of Western Australia was established in Western Australia in 1959. In 1964 an Act of Parliament was passed in the State Parliament which formally established the Trust as an independent community-based organisation.
Rules
Section 27 of the National Trust of Australia (WA) Act 1964 enables the Trust to establish rules to assist regulating the affairs, business and management of the Trust.
Trust rules are adopted by general or special general meetings of the National Trust.
Regulation

Freedom of Information Act
The Western Australian Freedom of Information Act 1992 (the FOI Act) gives the community the right to apply for access to documents held by State Public Sector agencies. As a statutory authority, the National Trust of Australia (WA) (the National Trust) is required to assist the community to obtain access to documents at the lowest reasonable cost, and to ensure that personal information held is accurate, complete, up-to-date and not misleading.
Freedom of Information access application
The community’s right to apply for access to information is not affected by any reasons they may have for wishing to obtain access or the agency’s belief as to what their reasons are for applying.
