Year 3 – Community and Remembrance
Inspire your students and ignite their curiosity with immersive, real-world learning experiences that bring history to life. At ANZAC Cottage, they’ll uncover a remarkable story of community spirit and remembrance.
On 12 February 1916, the Mount Hawthorn community united, donating materials, skills, and time to build ANZAC Cottage in just one day for a returned World War I soldier and his family. This act of solidarity wasn’t just a gift to one soldier; it was a lasting memorial to all ANZACs.
As students explore ANZAC Cottage, they’ll discover how a passionate community can achieve extraordinary things. This is a unique opportunity to visit a war memorial where history is not just remembered but continues to be commemorated.
The ANZAC Cottage Year 3 Program is tailored to the curriculum outcomes of Community and Remembrance. The engaging and interactive excursion to ANZAC Cottage combines aspects of commemoration, symbolism, community, continuity and change.
