Central Greenough is a historic site on Yamatji Country. From the mid-1800s Central Greenough served as the local administrative centre for the surrounding farming community. Churches, schools, stores, residences, government and law enforcement offices required to service the surrounding farms were constructed here.
Located on the Brand Highway approximately 25km south of Geraldton, today Central Greenough is a collection of eleven heritage buildings that include the police station, courthouse and lockup, 2 churches, a community hall, convent, presbytery and a one-room school.
The National Trust encourages experiences that engage students with their history to instil a commitment to valuing heritage. A visit to Central Greenough supports the Western Australian Curriculum by providing opportunities to develop historical skills, knowledge and understandings; explore cross curriculum priorities; and make links to other learning areas.
Education programs at Central Greenough on Yamatji Country are facilitated by school teachers with support from the National Trust Education Officers where possible.
