Description
The Cathedral is a thriving community of people who follow Jesus; and has four weekly Bible-based services as well as mid-week activities for children, youth and the community.
Heritage significance and previous restoration
On 22 July 1962 the new cathedral was dedicated, and construction was completed in time for the first service on 8 March 1964.
The building was designed to be set apart from the traditional English church common at the time. Instead, it symbolises the character of Australia and its people – rugged, spacious, bold and strong. The building sits within Geraldton’s central precinct and is a key part of the fabric of the community.
Major restoration of the roof is needed if the Cathedral is to remain a community asset that welcomes Christians and all people alike.
