Advocacy

We are an advocacy group – advocacy by definition is the process of influencing decision makers.

As a community-based and Australia’s oldest heritage organisation, we represent the community’s interest in heritage issues and advocate, negotiate, educate and form partnerships to achieve positive heritage outcomes. The National Trust does not have statutory powers. This lays with the state government bodies and heritage legislation.

At the local level, we are able to provide advice to owners of heritage places, local government authorities and community organisations.

The Australian Council of National Trusts coordinates and submits recommendations, advice and comments for significant national heritage issues and action.
